Some Misconceptions about Taekwon-Do

What is Taekwon-Do?

Although Taekwon-Do is gaining more and more popularity all around the world, there are still many who are in the dark as to what Taekwon-Do actually is. So, what is Taekwon-Do? To put it succinctly, Taekwon-Do is a Korean martial art that puts its emphasis on kicking techniques. The Korean word "Taekwon-Do" translates into "the way of the hand and foot" (Tae means "foot", Kwon means "fist" and Do means "the way"), however this literal translation fails to convey the deeper meaning of the word.  "Do" in Korean implies a philosophical approach to a way of life. The students of Taekwon-Do can expect, through rigorous physical training, to improve themselves not only physically but mentally, and in all areas of their life. Through Taekwon-Do training a student will develop the strong work ethic that is necessary in bringing out the best in oneself. This is Taekwon-Do. As with most other things, one will only get out of Taekwon-Do what one puts into it, and these benefits come gradually over a long period of time. With hard work and dedication, the benefits will gradually be realized and students are always surprised at how much Taekwon-Do has affected their everyday life.

"Glory is temporary. Wisdom lasts forever.
Train for a deeper understanding of yourself."
